Many policemen on the street are law enforcement and they become familiar with the community and certainly know many of the inhabitant both good and bad. They take the time, spend the energy to learn more about their job and that which they protect.
The point I believe, IMHO, is that it should be a job requirement that rangers in National Parks know about the community and have a passion for the flora and fauna....at least try.
It seems to becoming that if you see hash being sold call a ranger and if you see a snake you can't id call an interpretive staff. Such a pity.
