Twelve birders joined me for today's TAS walk in the East Everglades. Our primary stop was the C-357 sparrow fields; we walked west along the berm to just past where it bends. Though birds weren't plentiful, we still had some nice sightings, including:
White-tailed Kite - a pair, observed feeding and gathering nesting material
Northern Harrier - both male and female
Cooper's Hawk - a female on the wires along SW 168 Avenue east of the sparrow fields
Barn Swallow - at least one
Clay-colored Sparrow - one, seen well by most of the group
Grasshopper Sparrow - several, seen well
Lincoln's Sparrow - one, seen by only a few participants
Eastern Towhee and Savannah Sparrow - apparently heard-only. A possible White-crowned Sparrow was also heard.
Blue Grosbeak - seen by at least one participant
Indigo Bunting - a few, including a male in breeding plumage
Painted Bunting - a few; one adult male plus green types
Eastern Meadowlark - singing on the wires crossing the sparrow field at the entrance

Later in the morning, we drove south down SW 237 Avenue to SW 216 Street, then walked east along SW 216 Street for about a mile. It was getting windy by then and we didn't see or hear much besides Loggerhead Shrikes and meadowlarks.
