Black Point Marina Jetty Repairs to Begin in Biscayne National Park
HOMESTEAD, FLORIDA Repair work to the Black Point Marina jetty in Biscayne National Park is set to begin March 16, 2015. The end of the jetty and the Black Creek trail will be closed to entry for four weeks while construction work is completed. Contractors and park employees are expected to finish the $103,000 project in two months.
"This is the last of the park s Hurricane Sandy repair projects, said Robert Beech, Chief of Maintenance. The repair work will provide a safe and stable area for those who like to fish, walk or bike along the jetty and the Black Creek trail."
A barricade will be used in front of the area on the jetty where the repairs are in process. Beyond this point the jetty and trail will be closed to entry for four weeks while construction work is completed.
As part of the repair work 350 tons of rip-rap will be used to stabilize the Black Point Marina jetty and control erosion. The rip-rap consists of one to two foot limestone rocks that will be unloaded from barges by a crane. The repair work is being done by Biscayne National Park employees along with contracting companies Blue Water Marine Construction and Temporary Staffing Solutions. Money for the project is provided by the federal government as part of the Hurricane Sandy relief funding.
