Mariel, Jim & Kathy Johnson and I spotted the Key West Quail-Dove at Long Key SP at 8:45am this morning. The dove was seen at the first bend to the left after you reach the mangrove zone on the Golden Orb Trail. Good luck to anyone chasing :) We also had the Quail-Dove on Monday afternoon ~5:35pm at the "X", which are two snags on the right hand side of trail blocking an opening near the "graffiti" Gumbo Limbo.

We also saw the Black-faced Grassquit at Bahia Honda State Park on Monday afternoon, but missed it yesterday and to our knowledge has not been seen after 7:45am yesterday (Friday 3/6). Things have changed at the Grassquit site, someone has spread bird seed under the Gumbo Limbo where the Grassquit has been being seen. Now a large group of loud Red-winged Blackbirds and Eurasian Collared-Doves are showing up to feed on the seed. This may be making the Grassquit uncomfortable coming to feed with the larger birds.

Good luck to anyone chasing this species.

Nature is Awesome
