Thanks to Judd Patterson's tips I was able to at least hear a Black Rail calling yesterday morning. After driving south passed the entrance to Mahogany Hammock I pulled over at the 0.5 mile mark and began walking along the right (east) side of the road. At about the 0.7 mile mark I had a bird calling from just two feet away for 30 seconds. It stopped then began again about a minute later further north of me. As I walked back to my car I had a second bird calling from the west side of the road. Oddly enough I did not have any Cape Sable Seaside Sparrows singing while I was in the area from 6:30-7:30am.
