A medium sized duck appears with the flock of mottled ducks each morning now. It has an orange beak and black on the top of the head and down the back with white elsewhere for the body. It is shy and hangs back from the mottled when they come in to feed. Even the wood ducks now show more familiarity than this bird. We have and have had muscovey before but this bird doesn't fit the coloration or habits of the muscovey even when the cross breeds with pekin ducks were with us. It neither hisses nor quacks. It doesn't break to flite but paddles away. The wood ducks rise on the wing when the comfort zone is penetrated.

This creature is a first and all my bird books are in Montana so on-line and Thayers haven't shown anything near it. Telephone pictures are inconclusive. We are going to try with better equipment to get a good picture.

Meantime, any TASERS near by feel free to come and see. It could be a first.

SIDEBAR: Indigo buntings disappeared with SAturday heavy rain. Painted bunting numbers are dropping
