After a morning well spent doing a winter pelagic survey in Biscayne National Park with a good crew of seafaring participants, Carlos Sanchez and I made some brief afternoon stops around Florida City. We didn't see any pipits on SW 217 Street, and we were disappointed to see access to Aerojet Rd. is hindered by a gate.

After checking out the Great Horned Owl nest at the Ernest Coe Visitor Center at the Everglades National Park entrance, we backtracked to the C-111E (or Canal 111E). There we would quickly track down one of the previously reported Brown-crested Flycatchers calling on the south side of the canal near the parking area. We walked down the north side of the canal as it runs southeast beyond the lone hammock and to an area where zucchinis, green beans and squash had been dumped. Some shorebirds, mostly yellowlegs, are in here along with Killdeer, Least Sandpipers, Wilson's Snipe, and at least one Stilt Sandpiper.
