Both birds were seen this morning. The Bananaquit was spotted and heard just past the second beach entrance on the Silver Palm trail first at 8:30 and then at 10:05. The best looks however, were in a very large sea grape tree right at the start of the trail near the first beach entrance at 11:15.
For the grassquit go to the Buttonwood campground (not the Sandspur as I did--good birding behind that bathroom, but not what I was looking for) and park at the restroom. Right behind the women's room is a gumbo limbo tree that the bird favors. Just wait and she will show. A ranger said he has seen this bird for about six weeks and every day it is spotted at the base of the gumbo limbo. The grassquit was spotted at 11:45 by about six or seven people and posed for pictures until we got bored.
