Sorry for the late posting but I was on vacation and had no internet access.
Anyhow, camped at Long Key SP last Tuesday and Wednesday night. Had no luck looking for the KW Quail-dove, there were about a dozen people looking on Wednesday and Thursday. Someone reported having a distant glimpse on Tuesday though. Very windy on both Wednesday and Thursday making listening for the bird(s) impossible. On Tuesday afternoon I heard what I thought would be another Ovenbird poking around the leaf litter on the ocean side of the golden orb trail and when it popped out I was shocked to see a SWAINSON'S WARBLER which then flew across the trail and disappeared. I walked the trail several times on Wednesday and Thursday and never refound the bird. In the island area of the parking lot where the KW Quail-dove has been seen was a male BT BLUE WARBLER both Wednesday and Thursday also.
Sounds like the keys will be getting crowded with birders again.
ENJOY!
