The first day of the Great Miami Bird Count (a.k.a. Great Backyard Bird Count) started off with a bang when two American Woodcocks were obliging along Research Road. Expected species were along Anhinga and Gumbo Limbo Trails and I came across a Brown-crested Flycatcher just before the turn-off to Research Road. Two Great Horned Owl chicks are bursting out of their nest at Coe Visitor Center. The day ended with a whimper on Crandon Beach so that will definitely be a do-over this weekend.
