I birded Matheson Hammock County Park, Farchild Tropical Botanical Garden and Dante Fascell Park from 7:00-12:20 today. I ended with 68 species, and the lists have been submitted to eBird.
The Red-headed Woodpecker continues on the west side of Matheson Hammock along with an impressive number of Red-masked Parakeets and Orange-winged Parrots. In the deep hammock about 150 feet west of Old Cutler Road I had a Hermit Thrush in the same area Carlos found one many weeks ago. There were two Worm-eating Warblers in here, too. And dogs. Lots of dogs off of their leashes...
At Fairchild, the Swainson's Warbler was obliging in the native butterfly garden. A Magnolia Warbler was also in the butterfly garden.
The highlight in the mangroves at the far east end of Matheson was a Yellow Warbler of the Cuban subspecies.
The GBBC in Miami is off to a good start, and there are still three more full days to participate.
Well wishes,
Alex
