The "Tallahassee Two", Andy Wraithmell and Elliot Schunke, are spearheading a statewide effort to promote and organize eBird blitzes for 2015. They are picking a county from each region of the state (the Panhandle, Northeast FL, etc.) to concentrate on each month.
The Florida January eBird blitz will be held on January 31st, and our regional county this month is Monroe. Participants are encouraged to submit eBird submissions of their sightings in the county. For efficiency, those going to the county on this day to participate can correspond with me to tackle target areas and avoid overlapping.
There are some fantastic birds in Monroe right now, including at least two American Flamingos (southern Everglades National Park) and two Key West Quail-Doves at Long Key State Park. The Eurasian Wigeon in the Everglades could also possibly be around still. If there is anything we've learned about the Keys in the past few months is that they are vastly underbirded and produce fantastic species when enough stones are overturned.
