The Say's Phoebe continues at the 5-Stones Mine along Morning Star Farms Rd, north of Canal Point in Palm Beach County. It eventually appeared at 11.20 this morning feeding along the series of signs bordering the road across from the mine offices. It disappeared when an American Kestrel started feeding in the same area. It was not seen prior to this from 08.00. Only parts of the property are visible from the public road, so a scope and patience are advised.
In addition a Dickcissel, Blue Grosbeak, together with several Indigo Buntings and Painted Buntings were observed feeding in the vegetation on the mound that starts to the left of the two "Stop" signs.
Folks traveling to see these birds may find the following directions more helpful than those previously posted:
Morning Star Farms Rd is on your right as you travel north from Canal Point on 98/441/15. It is the first right immediately after you cross the railroad tracks. Look for the 5-Stones Mine sign. The two "Do Not Enter" signs are actually inside the mine property and appear to be for a weigh-bridge at the office. There are two "Stop" signs at the mine property entrance before this and this perimeter is posted "No Trespassing". This is where you should park. There is a wide pull-off area where Morning Star Farms Rd (Florida Trail) bends to the right and some raised ground to scope from. Continuing on this public road/trail will bring you to the eastern perimeter of the mine property and provides another viewing option.
