Forty-five birders participated in the Miami-Dade Christmas Bird Count on December 20. A total of 29,104 individuals of 144 species (130 ABA-countable) were tallied on count day. Northern Gannet and Allen s/Rufous Hummingbird (documentation pending) were added during count week; the hummingbird would be a first for this CBC. Also new for the count was American White Pelican (documentation pending) and Swainson s Warbler. Other unusual species included Black Scoter, American Avocet, Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Louisiana Waterthrush, Yellow Warbler and Wilson s Warbler. New high counts were established for 13 species: Black-crowned Night-Heron, Cooper s Hawk, American Avocet, Blue-crowned Parakeet, Chestnut-fronted Macaw, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Eastern Phoebe, Loggerhead Shrike, White-eyed Vireo, Magnolia Warbler, Yellow-throated Warbler, American Redstart and Northern Waterthrush.
