The "Ridgway's" Osprey (Pandion haliaetus ridgwayi) has been recognized as a subspecies since at least the 1800's. I think what you're trying to say is that there is difficulty determining if the birds we have in the Florida Keys are truly "Ridgway's" and not another distinct white-headed subspecies or a hybrid between North American Osprey (P. h. carolinensis) and "Ridgeway's"?
