I birded weedy/brushy areas adjacent to some lakes north and west of Dolphin Mall. I am seeing lots of bulldozing and construction and I believe these areas will soon be no longer. In a strip of brush that was mostly Brazilian Pepper I had Orange-crowned, N. Parula, A. Redstart (female), Palm, Prairie and Yellow-rumped warblers. Also seen were plenty of Gnatcatchers, an Eastern Phoebe, a House Wren and a Swamp Sparrow. A Cooper's Hawk was patrolling the same brushy area, stealthily flying in and out trying to surprise a bird.
Near water I had Osprey, Pied-billed Grebes, Coots, DC Cormorants, several Killdeers, a Spotted Sandpiper, a Solitary Sandpiper, several Lesser Yellowlegs, Wood Stork and other waders and common birds. One small lake had an alligator.
