This past weekend, the yellow-headed blackbird was being quite conspicuous at Wakodahatchee - I had been hoping to see this bird as a lifer for me, and all the reports of it being around - so I was very pleasantly surprised when it popped right up 20-25 feet from me in glorious sunlight in the late afternoon and let me get some wonderful shots. One shot posted in this thread.
Other action at Wako & Green Cay: Painted buntings are really beginning to take over the park - last year there seemed to be record numbers of them around - this year is easily doubling that. At the front feeders alone, there were 10-12 PAIRS of buntings, male and female, mobbing the feeders. East feeders, NE feeders, and chickee hut feeders were all being visited by 2-6 buntings. Hawk activity is also up at Green Cay - red-shouldered, coopers, sharp-shinned, merlin, kestrel, and northern harriers all present and actively hunting around. American bittern & sora both present, Virginia rails at Wakodahatchee heard calling but unfortunately I can't get eyes on them (though many others have). Warbler activity has been very high at Green Cay this week, and Wako last week - palm, prairie, B&W, pine, yellow-throated, black-throated blue, yellow-rumped, common yellowthroat, northern parula, and blue-headed vireo all in multiples through the cypress tree stand.
