Hey all,

Mariel and I had the pleasure of hosting a friend from Utah this past week, he wanted to see lifers and lifers he got! The first lifer came in the form of a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher in a spot we'd expect one, but had never see one at before; Virginia Key Beach Park. We were in search of the Great Black Hawk which we missed on this day, but scored two days before. You know, better pictures and views desired :) We were also treated to an adult Bald Eagle which made a few passes over the area. We don't see very many eagles over Virginia Key. That was a treat! Another treat was a Short-tailed Hawk which caught a good sized Green Iguana and flew off to the roof of a nearby condo to feed on its catch. Scope views of the bird with that iguana in its talons was pretty awesome!

The city was full of life as usual, we checked off every ABA countable exotic and South FL specialty, along with many of the areas non-countable exotics. We got lucky with a Shiny Cowbird that was mixed in with Bronzed Cowbirds. Red-whiskered Bulbul have begun to sing and are chasing each other around; nesting can't be too far in the future. We also had amazing looks at two Spot-breasted Orioles, one even let us grab some cool footage of it with a grub. We've attached a short video clip of this awesome bird, check it out! Enjoy :)
