The sparrow fields just outside Chekika had good diversity for this time of year, including Savannah (10), Grasshopper (11), Swamp (4), and Clay-colored (1) Sparrow. Interestingly, I have observed that sparrow numbers and diversity build through the winter with a peak in March at this location.
Other birds of interest included White-eyed Vireo (1), Northern Waterthrush (2), Indigo Bunting (2), and Painted Bunting (2). The site felt very birdy overall with a lot of grasses beginning to seed right on the edges of the berm.
