The flooded tomato field on CR 858 in Collier County continues to host four Snow Geese and an adult male Canvasback. Directions can be found in my weekly rare bird update. Other birds seen there today include several each of Northern Pintail, Roseate Spoonbill, Black-necked Stilt and American Avocet. Mottled Duck, Northern Shoveler and Blue-winged and Green-winged Teal were the only other ducks seen. Killdeer, Lesser Yellowlegs and Long-billed Dowitcher were the only other shorebirds I could find.

The Long-billed Curlew continues at the east end of Bunche Beach in Lee County. Twelve other shorebirds were seen: Black-bellied, Wilson's, Semipalmated and Piping Plover, Willet, Marbled Godwit, Ruddy Turnstone, Sanderling, Western and Least Sandpiper, Dunlin and Short-billed Dowitcher. At Big Carlos Pass in Fort Myers Beach, I added Snowy Plover (four) and Red Knot to my shorebird day list.

On my way west, I stopped at Kendall Drive and SW 162 Avenue, where I easily found the Sora reported previously in the pond on the west side of the bridge. I also stopped at the water control structure on US 41 just west of Krome Avenue, where I had no problem finding the previously reported Tropical Kingbird. I also found an Ovenbird and Orange-crowned Warbler there.
