I decided to walk the L31-W canal this morning. Bryant Roberts had arrived there just before me, and we joined forces. We saw apparent an Tropical Kingbird at two locations, the first in the middle of the E-W segment of the canal, the second at the 2nd water control structure. The latter arrived after we did, and they may be the same bird.
We had started our return and had walked up the berm to scan the marsh when Bryant noticed the Vermilion streaking by behind us. We then got repeated views of it on both sides of the canal, just south of the 2nd water control structure.
On our way back, we spotted a Swainson s Hawk.
By the time we returned to our cars, we had encountered 50 species of bird, including both light and dark Short-tailed Hawks, Red-tailed Hawk, Grasshopper Sparrow, and Eastern Towhee.
