At around civil twilight (6:15-6:30PM) on 11/24, Alex Harper, Brehan Clare Furfey, and I observed six Lesser Nighthawks over the fields north of State Road 9336 near Lucky Hammock.
To see the birds, head north about a quarter of a mile from the water control structure on the C-111 Canal (the second to last canal before entering the park where a Vermilion Flycatcher wintered a couple years ago). The Lesser Nighthawks were observed from a piece of raised ground on the east side of the canal, hawking insects over a cleared area. A single bird made a flyby right over the canal.
