Matheson Hammock had a nice assortment of birds around today in the picnic area and in the hammock on the west side of Old Cutler Road. Hopefully, many of these individuals will decide to stay through the winter. Notable species included:
Short-tailed Hawk: 2, dark morph
Ruby-throated Hummingbird: 2
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker: 1, coconut palms in picnic area
Northern Flicker
Pileated Woodpecker
American Kestrel: 2
Eastern Phoebe: 4
White-eyed Vireo: 3
Yellow-throated Vireo: 2
Blue-headed Vireo: 2
Ovenbird: 2
Worm-eating Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler: 2
Tennessee Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
Cape May Warbler: 2
Northern Parula: 5
Black-throated Blue Warbler: 5
Palm Warbler: 7
Yellow-throated Warbler: 4
Prairie Warbler: 2
Black-throated Green Warbler
Scaly-breasted Munia: 3, in tall grass west of Old Cutler Road
