: : So much drama this morning......Palm warblers, Catbirds, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Squirrels, Broad-winged Hawk and the best yet.......a male Painted Bunting at the feeder with millet I especially put up to attract them. That makes yard bird #56. (Ok, Robin D. I will be looking out for the Western Spindalis!)

: Why is it that everyone else has the male painted bunting in the yard but me? I have some millet, for my( pet) parrot, is this the secret? I had the lovely female one day, but it would be nice to see "him" as well!!

Yes, I think millet is the key, but so is the right type of bird feeder. I bought mine at PetSmart for $24.95. The feeding tube in the center is surrounded by a cage with openings small enough for little birds to fly in and feed. This type of construction keeps out the Jays, Doves and squirrels.
