Today is Halloween and tons of people are out trick-or-treating. I received a text from a friend (Carlos Valenzuela) who said he was looking at a possible Horned Grebe. I immedieatly thought he was pulling my leg and passing me a Pied-billed Grebe information with a Horned Grebe costume. Then he texted me a photo of a photo and reality set in. It took me 15 minutes to get there and he was ever so right. I wasn't tricked after all. I was treated to a bird rarely seen this far south. A memorable Halloween indeed! Wouldn't trade that Horned Grebe for 1,000 buckets full of candy. That bird was so good and so cooperative that all the other birds singing, flying around, and perching on the rocks almost became inexistent to me at that point.

After that, I made a stop at the Boynton Inlet. Everyone knows that a dozen eggs come in a carton and a wouldn't you know that I spotted a dozen Northern Gannets (8 adults and 4 immature ones) flying towards Miami.
Also the first time I see more than a dozen Ring-billed Gulls (mostly 1st and 2nd year).
Lots of Laughing gulls in all stages (except breeding of course).
2 Palm Warblers (Eastern) on a fence by the beach
40 Ruddy Turnstones
7 Great Blue Heron migrating southbound
2 Ospreys
12 Turkey Vultures
Many Royal Terns as well.

Let's wait until November and see what that month brings... WAIT! November starts tomorrow so go birding!
Best to all,
Marcello
