Bahama Swallow, Long Key State Park

Yesterday (10/25/14) at 4:30 PM at Long Key State Park we observed a single swallow that appeared to be a Bahama Swallow. It was bright white below and dark greenish above. The white extended well onto the checks. Bill s first impression was of a Violet-green Swallow. However, as it flew overhead he noted that it had a long deeply forked tail (much longer Violet green). Nancy noted extensive white, much more than any Tree or Violet-green, and noted the white on the face, then observed the forked tail (different shape than Barn or any other swallow)

We recognize the rarity of this species given that there are no previous October records that we could find.
