Mariel, Cajunspice and I enjoyed a fun stroll through A.D. Barnes Park yesterday (Saturday) afternoon. We saw 15 species of warbler, both Scarlet & Summer Tanager, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, Indigo & Painted Buntings as well as two Baltimore Orioles. American Kestrel was the falcon on the move today, along with good numbers of Turkey Vultures and the occasional buteo or accipiter. We also had an adult White-crowned Pigeon which was rather cooperative, something this species isn't find of, lol. All in all we were pleasantly surprised with what we saw, even though we missed a Golden-winged Warbler and Wood Thrush, but we saw both of these species last week :)
Before sunset, Mariel and I visited Matheson Hammock Park in hopes of seeing some raptors before the flight died out for the day. Best raptor over Matheson was a dark morph Short-tailed Hawk never get enough of this awesome raptor! We added two more warbler species here, bringing the day's total warbler species to 17! We also finished up the grosbeak sweep with a Blue Grosbeak. Scaly-breasted Munia and House Wren were also new for the day. Oh...and two Chestnut-fronted Macaws flew over us as we admired the sunset Wild Miami!
While walking back to our car we were treated to a calling Great Horned Owl, perfect way to finish the day :)
Nature is Awesome
