I, a brave soul among many braver, sought the Red-Necked Stint in July, only to not find him... ...yet. The little Calidris Ruficollis evaded me... so far...
Today, I went to Bunche Beach, seeking the Red Necked Stint (probably why, anyway). I saw a million (nearly) small birds, which looked rather like the Red-Necked Stint, but lacked red, and also lacked stint, but were otherwise identical.
I admit it! The real reason was to find a Curlew Sandpiper for Toe (or mabe a boat. I boarded one, hacked down most of the crew, then Captain Teach appeared, and I left the boat, minus my whole boarding party. Easy Come, Easy Go.). I probably saw a culew sandpiper, or at least, a sandpiper, and maybe even a curlew, just not mixed yet (like a boxed cake mix; eggs, powder, oil, water is cake in time enough!). I figured I would then look for the Eskimo Curlew, seeing all the success I was having. I found a huge blue sandpiper, with a daggery black tipped bill. It looked rather like a heron, but if a curlew can look like a sandpiper, it can also look a heron, maybe. Maybe it was really just the elusive Heron Sandpiper. Oh well. I'll check allaboutbirds, but I can never get it to show the birds I am interested in.
There were swathes of other birds, but I am too tired right now to list them, as I have been up all day. Good night everyone! I will give a possibly more thorough but likely more boring account tomorrow or sometime, when I can identify all the little birds I got pictures of but could not identify (dunlins? dowitchers? Ducks? Donuts?).
