The bunting don't seem to spill many seeds. They take them individually from the feeder, shell them, and eat them. However, if other birds can get in (especially doves, grackles, jays, cardinals) they spew them all over the place. We haven't had a problem with starlings but if they're around they'd probably exploit the spillage of millet or anything else. The millet does sprout.
