Evidence strongly suggests that Smooth-billed Ani has been all but extirpated from Florida; there are no longer any reliable locations in the state to see this species. Vagrants, most likely from the Bahamas or Cuba, continue to be reported on occasion, mostly from coastal locations. Any confirmed sightings will be included in my weekly rare bird update. On a more positive note, this species remains common throughout the rest of its range in the Caribbean and Latin America.
