A great migration walk! I had been getting a bit concerned by the paucity of birds the last couple of days, but the group logged an impressive 57 species this morning, including 13 warblers. The highlight for most of the group was undoubtedly the pair of Blue-winged Warblers. I had a feeling that I was seeing two different birds during the past week, but today we were able to see them together (if anyone got both in one photo, please send me a copy!).
For me, one of the highlights was observing one of my favorite Pileated Woodpecker behaviors, i.e. drilling a hole in the base of a bromeliad to get a drink of water (or, as one participant noted, bug soup).
Warblers: a pair of Magnolias (first warblers of the day), Ovenbird, N. Parula, Black & White, Tennessee, Palm, Prairie, Pine, Common Yellowthroat, Am. Redstart, Worm-eating, Black-throated Blue and, of course, Blue-winged.

Also seen: Indigo Buntings (including the first male this fall), Painted Buntings (the few hardy souls who stayed to the end were treated to close looks at two adult pairs), Great Horned Owl, Summer Tanager, Merlin and Swainson's Thrush. The most unexpected bird of the day was a solitary Royal Tern fishing on one of the ponds.
The complete Ebird checklist can be found at the link below.

The next monthly walk is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 9 at 7:30am. I hope to see you there.
