Yes, I agree that 6 Zenaida Doves is highly unlikely. Here's his description:
All dark brown above and below including head. ALL dark bill. Reddish legs. White inner secondaries spot. Forehead and front of crown paler than darker nape. Large, dark spots on coverts confined to rear half of bird. Tail long and dark ended. Small dark line at base of ear coverts. These are all field marks I called out to my wife without looking at National Geo. Bird was shorter by a bit than accompanying Mourning Doves and, of course, very much darker. Squat Ground Dove not even a close possibility. Dark primaries all edged white. Distance to bird 20 ft. 8x42 bins.
