ok so if you go off the coast of Miami to upper Bahama Islands this bird is fairly common. They are also shot there as a "game bird". So if there is appropriate habitat in Florida keys /South Florida then why not simply re-introduce them. Capture and release. We did this with Spruce grouse in Vermont (captured in Canada where they are common and hunted) and released in Northern VT where they are now protected from hunters. (Previously common until hunters killed them off.) It seems silly for people to be beating the bushes to find one Key West Quail dove that accidentally flew across from Bahamas when we could reestablish this amazing bird in it original Florida habitats.
