This morning my mom and I checked out the Hidden Lake area of Everglades National Park. To reach this area, get onto Research Road and head straight at the T Intersection instead of turning right.

I was unable to find the Brown-crested Flycatcher reported just past gate 15, just the regular Great-crested. An American Goldfinch flew over.

We walked onto the path towards the large mound. Four Hooded Mergansers, Killdeer, Semipalmated Plover, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, and Least Sandpipers were seen long the lake to the north of the path. A Marsh Wren popped up briefly and played hide and go seek with me for a couple minutes.

We walked up the mound and looked over the other side. A larger lake held more waders and shorebirds. Two Ring-necked Ducks were hanging out with a flock of seventeen Pied-billed Grebes. There were plenty of Black-bellied Plovers along with one American Golden Plover, Killdeer, Semipalmated Plover, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Dunlin, Least Sandpiper, Stilt Sandpiper, and quite a few Long-billed Dowitchers. Two Bald Eagles flew by and landed next to the shorebirds without even disturbing them.

We decided to head back to Coe's Visitor Center for a bathroom break. A couple Ovenbirds were hanging around the garden as well as a beautiful male Painted Bunting.

A couple Purple Martins were hanging around the nest boxes at Robert Is Here fruit stand.

Dump Marsh had a couple American White Pelicans, American Coots, Mottled Duck, Blue-winged Teal, and a Lesser Scaup.

There was nothing at Cutler Wetlands, but of course it was mid-day.

Seventy-six species were seen or heard.
