For the last week or two a Red Bellied Woodpecker, for the first time, has been frequently visiting my nest box. One to five times on any given morning. He (I believe it's a male)lands at the entrance hole, pecks away at the front of the box like a machine gun and then looks inside a few times. To my knowledge it has not entered the box. He/they also visit my feeder and hanging suet. To those who know Red Bellied Woodpecker nesting habits...Is this a possible sign that a Red Bellied family will be moving in? Any information posted or e-mailed would be very much appreciated.
