Five birders joined me for yesterday's TAS trip to Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in

Collier County. During our drive to Corkscrew along CR 833 and CR 846, we

tallied an impressive 17 Crested Caracara. Black-bellied Whistling-Duck,

Limpkin, Sandhill Crane, Eastern Kingbird and Purple Martin were some of the

other species seen en-route. Several Wild Turkey and a Fox Squirrel were spotted

near Corkscrew's entrance.

Breeding species found at Corkscrew included Downy and Pileated Woodpecker,

Great Crested Flycatcher, White-eyed Vireo, Brown-headed Nuthatch, Tufted

Titmouse, Carolina Wren, Northern Parula and Pine Warbler. Migrants encountered

included Eastern Wood-Pewee, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Yellow-throated Warbler,

Black-and-white Warbler, American Redstart, Northern Waterthrush, Summer Tanager and Baltimore Oriole.

Our afternoon plans to visit Bunche Beach and Big Carlos Pass were thwarted by

heavy rains that moved into the area after lunch.
